Your movers in Montreal
PMG Moving is based at 8505 rue Sherbrooke Est, in Mercier–Hochelaga-Maisonneuve. Montreal isn't a territory we serve from a distance — it's where we are, and where we do most of our moves. All 19 boroughs, plus linked cities such as Westmount, Mount Royal, Côte-Saint-Luc, Dorval and Pointe-Claire.
Every one of our movers is covered by the CNESST and PMG carries full liability insurance. We also work with clients whose relocation is authorized by the IVAC, and bill the agency directly.
Our crews work in English and in French — tell us which you prefer when you call and that's the language you'll get, on the phone and on moving day.

Why one move takes 3 hours and the next takes 5
Two identical 4½s, two different invoices. Since we bill by the hour, what drives the price is time — and time comes down to very concrete things. Here they are, in the order they cost us hours.
Everything packed and taped shut before we arrive
This is by far the biggest one. When the crew shows up and you're still filling boxes, the movers wait — and the clock runs anyway. No blame here, it's just how it works: a client who is ready at 8 a.m. gets a noticeably shorter invoice than one finishing the kitchen while we load the living room. If you're running out of time, tell us in advance. We can pack for you, and planned packing is far faster than improvising on the day.
A clear path to the door
Movers carry heavy, awkward furniture. If they have to step around stacked boxes, move a bike, or open a door on every trip, each run costs a few extra seconds — multiplied by hundreds of trips. A clear lane from the back room to the truck is the difference between a crew that flows and a crew that weaves.
How far the truck is from your door
A truck parked at the entrance and a truck parked 60 metres down the block are not the same move. Every single item makes that round trip. That's why the parking question below isn't red tape — it's probably the easiest hour to save on your invoice.
Elevator booked, floor, staircases
In a building, an elevator reserved with the syndicate or the caretaker changes everything: without a booking, the crew shares the cab with residents and waits on every trip. With no elevator, the floor is what counts — and in Montreal, the classic exterior spiral staircase on a triplex means big furniture goes up one piece at a time, often via the interior back staircase when there is one. Tell us the floor and the staircase type when you ask for your quote: that's what lets us give you an estimate that actually holds.
Real volume, not the number of rooms
A 4½ can hold 30 boxes or 90. A basement, a shed, a storage locker in the garage, a vinyl collection, an upright piano — those are what stretch the day, not the bedroom count. The more honest your inventory at quote time, the more accurate our estimate of hours.
How many movers — and it's not what you'd think
Because billing is hourly, a crew of 3 sometimes costs less than a crew of 2. In a building with an elevator or on a high floor, the third mover stays at the truck and loads while the other two come down: nobody waits. On a ground floor with the truck at the door, 2 is plenty. We'll tell you straight which one fits your situation — the full breakdown is here.
Parking and permits: the moving-day trap in Montreal
In Montreal the rule depends on your borough. Generally, no permit is required if you are not putting up no-parking signage, not blocking the sidewalk, and the street has no parking meters. The moment one of those three conditions fails — common in the Plateau, Ville-Marie, Rosemont or Villeray — you need a temporary public-domain occupancy permit.
Processing time varies a lot: roughly 24 hours in boroughs such as Outremont, Verdun and Saint-Léonard, 48 hours in Lachine, and up to 5 business days in most others. Some issue it free, others charge. Check your borough's rules on the City of Montreal's official page (in French).
Our advice: apply as soon as your date is confirmed, not the week before. A truck parked 60 metres from your door because the spot out front is taken easily adds an hour to your invoice — far more than the permit costs. And around July 1st, borough offices are swamped: apply in May.
